Always been passionate about carnival, masks and disguise, in recent years, raising my two children, I have rediscovered with them the taste and joy of masquerading and participating in the numerous events spread out over the Tuscany's territory.
Lucca Comics & Games is the most important Italian exhibition dedicated to comics, animation, games, video games, imaginary fantasy and science fiction; which takes place in Lucca-Tuscany in the days between late October and early November; considered one of the most important global industry exhibition scenario, first in Europe and second in the world after the Tokyo Comiket.
The event involves the beautiful city of Lucca at 360 degrees; for a whole week the city becomes a theater in the open air, where people of all ages and thousand of cosplayers that together represent the real soul of the event.
Rediscovering this event after years was an experience that literally dazzled me the events's beauty and especially for how people plan and prepare their performances and their costumes (quite often handmade).
A healthy disease from which I personally feel infected.
My visceral desire to participate has given birth to a photographic-documentary project dedicated to the portrait; the refined decontextualization from the surrounding environment is a professional research aimed at the characters soul. Taking part in the event and mingled people with makeup and disguise... certainly adds relish and magic to the casual meetings with the different characters. Sounds incredible to say but some of them are simply outstanding, they're just wrapped in an atmosphere of magic that makes the meeting and documentation rich of emotions.
